What Is The Prognosis For Stage 4 Cancer In Lungs, Liver And Lymph Nodes?

My sister in law was just diagnosed with stage 4 cancer in her lungs, liver and lymph nodes. She starts radiation and chemo soon and I was curious as to what this entails. They told her the cancer is inoperable and I honestly want to know what road lies ahead of her. She is 48 years old and in good health but a little over weight. Thanks for your time in answering my questions!

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
Cancer with stage 4 is an advanced stage and has poor prognosis. Also, metastasis to organs like lungs and liver is a bit dangerous too.
However, radiation and chemotherpy might help her to prolong the illness for some time and prevent dreadful complications from taking place.
Hence, take courage and provide moral support for her as much as possible.
Hope the information provided would be useful.
Best wishes.
