What Is The Procedure For Taking Barium Enema?

Last November i went to my GP, asked for proper tests as i felt bleeding from bowel for previous 6 months and seeing undigested food in most stools was not normal.Dad had bowel cancer. I was refured to a specialist. But All i have recieved to date is a letter from mid central heath saying my G!50Z Barium Enema is considered ROUTINE and they cant give me an appointment yet but will send one as soon as practicable. Id like to know what the procedure is and does it seem appropriate .I am tired of being treated for IBS with laxsol and lactulose.

HI
Thank for asking to HCM
The Barium enema is non invasive investigative procedure, and this is being done by the radiologist, Barium is kind of dye they just feel the big colon with this dye thorough the anal route, inserting rubber catheter (Tube) and lifting up the container which filled with Barium so the against gravity Barium goes in the big intestine all the three parts filled with the dye 1) Ascending colon 2)transvers colon 3) Descending colon then x-ray images being taken, this is the procedure of Barium, hope this information helps you have nice day.
