at L3-L4 level, mild left foraminal sterosis due to mild broad based predominantly left foraminal disc bulge associated small focal right central disc fragment extrusion pointing cranially and osteophyte. at L4-L5 level, mild left foraminal stenosis due to suble disc bulge extending into the left foramen. What does this mean? and do u think I need surgery?
According to MRI report you have degenerative disc disease of spine. Degenerative changes occurs in spine due to aging and development of weakness in annulus fibrosis which allows herniation of disc.
1.At L3-4 level there is mild broad based predominantly left sided disc bulge and it is associated with small focal right central disc fragment herniation pointing cranially. This is causing mild left neural foramen stenosis.
2.At L4-L5 level there is mild left foramen stenosis due to subtle disc bulge extending into the left neural foramen.
Treatment for degenerative lumbar disease includes physiotherapy or surgery. Effectiveness of both modalities are same. So,physiotherpay should be tried first. It causes strengthening of Para spinal muscles and it prevents further changes. Surgery should be the last option. There are also medicines like capsule pregabalin available for pain relief. Treatment can be planned after consultation with neurosurgeon. Get well soon.
