What Is The Life Expectancy Of A Person With Less That 20% Heart Functioning?

Hi, I would like to know the life expectancy for a 58yr old woman with a less than 20% heart function, currently having fluid overload and lung infection. She also has laboured breathing even while sitting down. She also finds it difficult to sleep lying down. Would appreciate your kind advice.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
Life expectancy of a person with 20% cardiac functioning is very less as the blood and oxygen supply for vital organs would have a huge defecit and would be difficult to function. It would make the condition even worse when there is associated infection with it.
However, with treatment, if the fluid overload could be corrected and infection controlled well, there is a chance for recovery and survival might be extended. It all depends on her response to the treatment.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
