What Is The Difference Between Urea And Bun?
can u please tell me the difference between urea and BUN as there is a conversion of
Urea [mg/dL]= BUN [mg/dL] * 2.14 (conversion factor derived by: MW of urea = 60, MW of urea nitrogen = 14x2 => 60/28 = 2.14) (Normal Reference Range Table from The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas. Used in Interactive Case Study Companion to PATHOLOGIC BASIS of DISEASE).
Therefore unless they being different tests or parameters only then one is converted to other. if they are linked what is the link connecting them?

BUN stands for blood urea nitrogen. It measures the amount of NITROGEN in a waste product called urea in the blood. Urea is formed by the liver for excretion of ammonia built up by breakdown of protein. It is normally excreted in the urine. If kidney function is impaired, the urea increases in the blood. However, the BUN can also rise because of other prerenal causes, even if the kidney function is good.In Canada, Europe and parts of the world test is simply reported as "urea" while in India we are now reporting as BUN or urea nitrogen.Hope thisanswers your query!
