What Is The Difference Between Posterior Spondylotic Ridging And Hypertrophic Spurring?

Hi. My cervical spine xray says I have moderate posterior spondylotic ridging at c5-6. It also notes bony narrowing of intervert nerual canals at C3-4, C4-5, C5-6, most severe at C4-5, secondary to hypertrophic spurring. It goes on to further note moderately severe bony narrowing of the left c3-4, c4-5, c5-6 intervertebral neural canals, due to hypertrophic spurring. The impression on the report states: 1) degenerative arthritic and disk disease changes; 2) posterior spondylotic ridging at c4-5 may produce effacement of the cord; 3) bony narrowing of the intervertebral neural canal bilaterally may produce symptoms in the associated nerve roots. Question: 1) What is the difference between posterior spondylotic ridging and hypertrophic spurring? My PCP had said something about calcification of the posterior longitudal ligament which confused me. I deal with on-going sensations of numbness, tingling, burning sensations in my hands and arms, along with intermittent pain down my arms that get aggravated with various activities.

HI
Well come to HCM
I really appreciate your concern, such degenerative disk disease can be managed in different ways like medically, physiotherapy, and of course surgically and it is all depends upon the clinical conditions, your query about the changes that is being detected is anatomical changes like growth of some bone and some angle changes, hope this information helps, take care and have a nice day,
