What Is The Constant Dryness In The Labia Of A Child?

My 7 year old daughter has red, dry labia. About every other day it bothers her, I put some A&D ointment on and she s fine. Has been going on for about 1 month. Thought it was just seam of pants rubbing but now getting worried. No itching. What could this be?

Hi,

Any soaps, bubble bath, bath bombs or wet wipes that could irritate her skin? Try avoiding all soap and having her wash her genitals with warm water only. Use detergent for sensitive skin and make sure she rinses with water after swimming too. In addition to A and D, you can use clotrimazole and hydrocortisone until the redness clears.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. ALICE TURNER, Pediatrician
