What Is Pain In Buttocks Radiating To Thigh And Calf Suggestive Of?

I am experiencing pain in the area of my buttocks, down through the back of the thigh, and extending down the outside of my calf -- this began when I was raking and vacuuming the carpet. I can relieve the pain by lying flat or by standing for a period of time. I suspect a muscular or sciatic nerve issue, but I don t know. Can you give me an idea of what I am experiencing. This has been ongoing for almost two months without getting better.

Hello dear user!
I have gone through your query and understood your concerns!
Thank you for sharing them on healthcaremagic.
Those seems to be sciatica symptoms. Basing on the symptoms you are describing above it's the most probable cause. Sciatic nerve may be affected by both muscular, and bone issues of the vertebral column. If it is just a muscular problem it usually goes away after some weeks of treatment with painkillers and muscular relaxants.
If it is caused by a vertebral problem (most common, spinal disc herniation) it must be seen by a specialist for a better evaluation and further treatment. Generally medical solution is given in this case, and surgery is used only in severe cases and in medical therapy failure.
So I would recommend you to consult a specialist (neurologist) to have a complete examination (probably including a MRI).
Meanwhile you must be careful of movements which cause you pain, and lifting weights. You can take antiinflammatory drugs to kill the pain and symptoms relief.
I hope this answer was helpful to you!
Please kindly rate it as helpful and write a short review about your experience with me! I would appreciate that a lot.
