Hi Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern...

Yes average size of kidney in an adult is 10-11 cm. Some variation in size of kidneys is normal & is not to be much concerned about. In females size of liver kidney tends to be smaller than males, this is normal variation.
Also your kidney appears normal in echo-texture. If there were some problem like renal hypoplasia, renal failure, etc that should easily be found by change in echo pattern by an ultrasound.

Therefore size of even 8.5 cm is not a problem if kidney tests (Renal function tests) & ultrasound are normal & you should stop worrying about it.

Refer to your physician
Hope this information helps
