What Is Diagnosis For Abdominal Pain, Nausea With An Ultrasound Report Showing Spots On Liver?
My daughter who is 24 years old was having sharp abdominal pain and nausea. She went to our local urgent care where they did blood work and an ultrasound. The ultrasound showed that she has spots on her liver. She doesn t drink alcohol. What could be the possible diagnosis?
Brief Answer: Additional tests are needed to help identify the underlying cause of a spot seen on a liver imaging study. You should see a GI doctor.
Detailed Answer: Hello, Thank you for using HCM. I hope my response will be helpful to you. A spot on the liver describes an area that appears different from the majority of the liver tissue. It may have different causes such as Infections, inflammatory reactions and various types of noncancerous and cancerous tumors. One of the most common causes are hemangiomas, which do not cause symptoms and are discovered incidentally. They are more common in females and may present at any age . In case of hemangiomas, labs results are all normal. Eventhough, additional tests are needed to exclude other causes, rather than heangiomas, of a spot seen on a liver imaging study. An AngioCT scan should be performed and should be measured the Liver enzymes and the inflammation indexes level. You should see a GI doctor.
Let me know if you need more clarifications. Kind Regards, Dr. Juarda
