Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I had high fever and weakness 18 days ago. I was given antibiotics and paracetamol. Although fever reduced considerably after 5 days of medication, I have been suffering from mild fever, weakness even now. Got the blood test done. Widal test -- S.TYPHI is 1:160. Do i have typhoid or what is the reason for my discomfort . Could you please guide me doctor ?
I have gone through your query and can understand your concern...
The Widal test is a blood test for enteric fever (typhoid fever) in which bacteria causing typhoid fever are mixed with serum containing specific antibodies obtained from an infected individual. It is done with 4 different antigens at 4 dilution ( from 1/20 to 1/160) The Widal test is positive if TO antigen titre is postive in 1:160 dilution & suggest typhoid. However it may also indicate past infection as well. A single Widal test is of little clinical relevance due to the number of cross reacting infections, including malaria, therefore clinical symptoms should also be positive for diagnosis of typhoid.
Hoping your query is solved. get well soon.
