What Does Throat Discomfort After Choking On Food Indicate?

My son just had a choking incident. He was coughing, so I know there was air flow, but he wanted me to do the Heinlich to try and remove the food particle. He spit up tons of mucus and food bits. He says it is better now, although he thinks he can feel something in his throat, and he is very tired. He is no longer coughing and seems to be breathing normally. Do we need to follow up with a doctor to be on the safe side?

Hi
Thank you for trusting HealthcareMagic for your health concern

As per your description if your son still feels foreign body sensation then it is possible some food particles are stuck in tonsil which gives foreign body sensation.
You just ask her to do gargling with lukewarm water with salt. It will definitely remove particles stuck in tonsils.

Regards
Dr. Hiren
