What Does This Stool Test Report Indicate?

Hi Doc, my baby is 5 months old, purely breastfed, has been pooping 5 times a day. Stool results showed that she has 6-8 pus cells, 1-2 red blood cells and 2-3 e. coli ova. What does this mean? Hope I can get response right away cause I m very worried about my daughter s condition. Thanks in advance.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The E.coli ova is widely present in the human's stool. Depending on the strains, it might cause infections too. Now, if she has been pooping 5 times a day, and purely breastfed, means she has been infected.

Usually, this infection is self-limited. Should give plenty of fluids, water with oral rehydration salts.
Give:
- tasectan for diarrhea
- probiotics to stabilize intestinal flora

If no improvement, should consult immediately with pediatrician as might require prescription meds.

It is very important to keep personal hygiene plus, you should take good hygienic measures while preparing food or while changing diapers.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
