General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

PCOD- Poly Cystic Ovarian Disease is a disease of the ovary in which the ovary either right or left or both has more number of follicles than the actual obstructing the normal physiology of the menstrual cycle. PCOD is one of the causes for female infertility. It affects the ovulation thereby release of eggs. Follicles are developed during each cycle and ruptures to release the egg for fertilization during ovulation. In PCOD the follicles not rupture to release the egg thereby causing infertility.

Other type of functional ovarian cyst is the corpus luteal cyst in which there is fluid filled sac following the rupture of the developed follicle. Oral Contraceptive Pills may help to overcome PCOD by preventing the growth of the follicle during each cycle during drug intake. Surgical methods are available in non responsive individuals. Discuss with your doctor about the drugs and follow up. Appropriate diet, physical activity may help to overcome PCOD.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
