I m 65yo with UC since I was 28. On and off steroids and Asacol and others for years. Less and less responsive to the drugs, so my Gastroenterologist recommended Remicade. I started 9 months ago. No infusion reactions, or apparent long term negative effects. One thing I am experiencing is significant fatigue, muscle aches, and a tingling discomfort in my limbs. Several months ago it was determined my Cortisol level was low ( since my last steroid taper). It is now in a normal range. Next, labs showed a low B12 level, which I am treating with replacement B12. I continue to have the same symptoms. Labs several days ago showed my Total Iron was 40mcg/dL, Iron Saturation 14.5%, TIBC 276 mcg/dL. Absolute Neutrophil Cnt is 29.8. My Gastro has sent me to a Endocrinologist. More labs are pending. This whole process is painfully slow. As I am reviewing my Remicade information I am wondering if my infusions are the cause. I have been actively running for 40+ years; in the last 10 years have run 6 marathons and 30 some half marathons. Currently it s tough to make it a half mile without stopping to walk. I have been on a strict paleo diet for 5 months. I m wondering if I would feel better, and do as well, if I was solely diet controlled. I just want my energy and active lifestyle back. I do understand a low iron can cause muscle aching and tingling discomfort.
