General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Thanks for posting in HCM.

I understand your concern.

The Liver Function Test (LFT) report what you have furnished could be interpreted in the following way:

1. Total bilirubin with 0.92mg/dl, Direct bilirubin with 0.28mg/dl and Indirect bilirubin with 0.64mg/dl is within the normal range.

2. Total proteins with7.86g/dl, Albumin with 4.99g/dl and Globulin with 2.87g/dl, along with Albumin/Globulin ratio with 1.74 is within normal range.

3. Among liver enzymes, Alkaline phosphatase with 118U/L is normal. But Aspartate transaminase (AST) with 61.49U/L is showing double the normal level, Alanine transaminase (ALT) with 111.69U/L is showing four-fold increase and Gamma Glutamyl Transferase (GGT) with 89.1Ul/L is showing a two fold high.

Increase in your AST, ALT and GGT enzyme levels is high, it could be due to alcohol induced liver damage, in case you are habituated to taking alcohol.
You need to completely quit alcohol intake and smoking, if you are habituated to.

It is advisable to assess the status of your liver for fatty changes by undergoing an ultrasound scan of the abdomen.

Also, avoid eating fatty foods and junk foods. Eat healthy and nutritious foods. You can also supplement with Vitamin E, Selenium and Lipotrophic factors regularly, which should help the liver tissues to recover back to normal.

Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
