What Does This Mammography Result For Left Breast Indicate?

Hi,My mom is going through chemotherapy after going through a lumpectomy in her right breast. She s done with 4 cycles of TCH. Yesterday, she noted a lump in her other breast (left side) which was painful once or twice but isn t anymore. The mammography which was done earlier which detected her cancer mentioned probable benign findings for the left breast. Her breast surgeon In his book has marked this lump and written mastitis.I m really worried as to can a breast cancer occur in the other breast when someone is going through chemotherapy?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Noted the history about your Mother undergoing lumpectomy in right breast and now having chemotherapy, but developed painful lump in other that is right breast which was marked by the Doctor to be mastitis.
Since the right breast lump is already evaluated radiologically and marked as mastitis there is nothing to worry.
Cancer is not painful and mastitis is non-cancerous inflammation of the breast due to inflammation in the breast tissue.
So not to worry.
Consult your Doctor and have treatment for mastitis.
Continue the Chemotherapy as before and have proper care of nutrition, psychology and so on.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, ENT and General Surgeon
