What Does This LFT Result With History Of Having Fatty Liver Indicate?
Just got a blood test done and my liver enzymes were AST/SGOT56 and ALT/SGPT57 I do drink almost everyday I have had an MRI on my liver about 6 months ago and results were a fatty liver 2 months ago I had a blood test and everything was normal do you think I need to worry I m trying to cut down on my drinking but I may have a problem with that
Hi, Thanks for posting in HCM. I understand your concern. Liver enzymes with AST 56 U/L and ALT 57 U/L is showing a two fold increase above normal. Drinking alcohol everyday with history of fatty liver is not good for health, as the liver damage has already been started. Even though enzyme levels do not indicate gross increase, that does not mean that the underlying pathology in liver for the progress of the disease is not taking place. You need to quit alcohol intake completely. Otherwise, you may land up in complications like cirrhosis of liver or acute liver failure. Hope the information provided would be helpful. All the best. Regards, Dr.Ashakiran.S., MBBS., MD.
