What Does This Echo Test Result For Heart Murmur Indicate?

Just been scheduled for a visit with a Cardiologist. Have not been feeling any symptoms, but recently had a yearly physical and they saw a heart murmur . Never knew this was there, have felt great all my life. Had an Echo , and my recent cholesterol was 202; triglyceride: 211 and HDL 120. What should I expect? Thanks

Hi,

Thanks for your question.

After going through your question, I can understand your concern.

As you are asymptomatic and clinically murmur is there there is a need to know cause of murmur.

Murmur denotes turbulent blood flow across heart valves or any abnormal shunts.
It may be due to -
- Valvular heart disease
- Congenital or developmental heart disease.
- Flow murmur in case hyper dynamic blood flow as in case of severe anemia (low Haemoglobin), hyper thyroidism.

From 2DEcho we Come to know about structural abnormalities of heart if any like valve abnormalities or any abnormal shunts (holes) in heart.

As you are asymptomatic possibility of causes other than heart are most likely.

Going through your Lipid Profile there is elevated levels of Total cholesterol and triglycerides that requires changes in diet and lifestyle and no medical treatment.
HDL value of 120 is unlikely, it might be the value of LDL and not HDL.

Hope this helps you, if so do vote as helpful.
