Yesterday took a CT scan for my sister since the prolactine harmone count was 1224 Serial axial CT sections of Brian 5mm slice thickness in infratentorial region and 8mm slice thickness in supratentorial region shows: # Small calcified granuloma noted in left fronted love cortex # No evidence of any infarct/hemorrhage/space occupying lesion # Bilateral mastoid aircell appear sclerosed Others shows as normal Kindly help me to understand this and what should be our next course of action ?
1. There is a healed calcium deposition due to an earlier brain infection. This is essentially a harmless finding and will not cause any serious concern. However an occasional seizure might be due to the granuloma and she should take anti epileptic medicines to control it.
2. Sclerosed mastoid is increased calcification in the bones behind the ear. This might indicate an old ear infection which has caused increased deposition of calcium in the mastoid bones. In normal state the bones contain air spaces which is changed to calcification due to chronic infection. Please do not worry.
