Hello. Thanks for writing in.
Your ultrasound report shows the placenta lying lower down in the uterus(than normal), reaching the mouth of the uterus i.e. cervix.
Commonly, the placenta will move upwards, away from the cervix, as the uterus expands with time, and reach a normal position.
In a small percentage it will persist in the low-lying location.
Your doctor will monitor the placental position by ultrasound, and inform you about the precautions and consequences if it remains low even in the third trimester.
As in any pregnancy, inform your doctor for any sudden bleeding etc.
You need not worry. Take care.

General & Family Physician Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali's  Response
Hi
Thanks for posting your query.
I appreciate your concern for the low lying placenta which is also referred to as placenta previa.

The main complication of placenta previa is sudden bleeding from the vagina which may be severe and life threatening . The bleeding often starts near the end of the second trimester or beginning of the third trimester.

If the placenta covers all or part of the cervix (internal os), a vaginal delivery can cause severe bleeding. This can be deadly to both the mother and baby. Nearly all women with placenta previa need a C-section.

Meanwhile you must take the following precautions:

Reduce your activities
Take Bed rest
Pelvic rest, which means no sex, no tampons, and no douching
If you have vaginal bleeding you must visit your gynecologist.

Hope this answers your query.

A feed back is appreciated.
