What Does The Ultra Sound Finding Fetal Lower Ventricles Appear Enlarged Indicate?
Hi, our daughter-in-law is expecting in July. She became pregnant through In Vitro and has done exceptionally well since conception. During a routine ultra sound at 20 weeks they have called her and feel they need to re-run the ultra sound because they they think the lower ventricles of the heart appear to be enlarged. Can you tell us what this means in terms of will it correct itself, can surgery be performed at birth or is it possibly just a test that needs to be reran and all is well? Thank you!
The heart consists of 4 chamber, the upper atria and lower ventricles. The right and left ventricle are studied in the fetus. The wall and dimensions of the ventricles are closely observed for any enlargement. There is a particular ratio for the thickness right and left ventricular walls. An abnormal ratio should be evaluated with care. Many times this is a transitory observation and may not require intervention. Depending on the size of the problem, it can correct by itself if it is a small one.
