What Does The Sonogram Of A Pregnant Woman Indicate?

I just got a call from my doctors office about my sonogram that I had done last week and they told me that his heart is tilted and that I need to have an echocardiogram as soon as possible. This is my 3rd child and I ve never had any difficulties until now. I m scared and I have no idea what all this is. Please help me to understand what this means as soon as possible! Please and thank you!!

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Since you have been contacted to get an echocardiogram done by your treating doctor it looks like the your doctor is suspecting some congenital heart defect. There is nothing to fear, heart defects can be detected before birth by sonography called fetal echocardiography with the help of sound waves. It is not invasive so there is nothing to worry.

You should get it done so that treatment plan can be made before time in case any defect is detected. If no defect is detected it is better.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
