What Does The Following Pelvic Ultrasound Report Indicate?

.1 cm cystic lesion with thin lacelike internal septations and additional areas of thickened nodular septations along the periphery. Thickened septations may reflect retracted clot in a hemorrhagic cyst, though followup pelvic ultrasound in 6 weeks is recommended to confirm resolution. 2. Trace endometrial and pelvic free fluid, which is likely physiologic.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Noted your pelvic ultrasound report but you have not mentioned why was it done, what are your symptoms and opinion of a Gynecologist.
Well, your ultrasonography reports can be explained in the following way.
One of your ovaries is not normal.
It shows a cyst, cyst means there is fluid inside and no mass in it as a differentiation.
The size is 1 cm as mentioned, this is small one.
The bleeding in the cyst is indicated by the presence of septations.
Or can be retracted clot indicating old hemorrhage.
This is usually benign means non-cancerous hence not to be worried about.
Hence to be followed by regular Ultrasonography so that the cause can be detected and treated if necessary.
No active treatment required at the moment if your Gynecologist says so.
Free fluid is pelvic cavity can be reactionary to the problem in the ovary or can be a normal collection as it is in trace that is very minute quantity.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T Chandrakant, General Surgeon
