What Does The Following Carotid Ultrasound Report Suggest?

I have a diagnosis of carotid stenosis, asymtomatic, bilateral. Carotid study shows that the IC to CC ratio was 1.92 on the right and 0.94 on the left. The velocity in the external carotid artery is 210 centimters/second on the right and 181 on the left. There is moderate plaque with stenosis bilaterally. Would you please tell me what this means ? I was given a copy of the report but was not explained what exactly this meant. Thank You

Hello and Welcome to 'Ask A Doctor' service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

The carotid artery supplies blood to brain .it is narrowed .so there is risk pf stroke if blood clot forms on that narrowed part. You should control your blood pressure and sugar level and lipid profile. Avoid neck massage. I suggest to take tab baby Aspirin a day. Repeat scan after 2 months if problem progresses then undergo carotid artery stenting.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
