General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

It should be understood that each medication has both side-effects and effects. Before the medication is prescribed all the effects and possible side-effects are evaluated by the doctor and the medication is prescribed when the benefit outweighs the harm.

There is no medication that will only show positive effects, hence Valparin Chrono have side effects and the blood levels of the drug are monitored from time to time. The most common adverse effect is nausea and drowsiness. The one specific to your son's age group is that a few studies suggest Valproic acid may lead to premature growth plate fusion causing short stature. However, the medication is widely used in the treatment of children with epilepsy around the world.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
