What Does The Following MRI Report Suggest?

Hello Doctor, my dad has been suffering from cervical discomfort, together with cervical & spinal instability for 3 months now. He has had a surgery done to fuse 2 of his discs 30 years ago and no reported problems till now because of that. His age is 61 & weight is 60+. These symptoms started now after a long journey and lifting of baggage. He also has pain in specific back muscles which aggravates even when sitting on the chair. The instability increases with slight numb feeling at times in his left hand. Also he complaints about cracking sounds often in his neck and back, after which the feeling of discomfort worsens. He also feels the mobility of muscles, which causes pain. He is undergoing an ayurvedic therapy for 4 weeks (2 weeks Medicines & 2 Weeks of Therapy as in patient.) His MRI has the following observations : cervical spondylosis with loss of cervical lordosis. Diffuse degenerative changes in the form of anterior and posterior osteophytosis noted in all cervical vertebrae. Spinal canal is normal & spinal cord is normal in size and signal intensity. Disc dessication noted at visualised cervical discs. Disc osteophyte complex noted at C3-C4 lvel indenting the ventral thecal sac and compressing the bilateral exiting neural foramen. Screening of lumbar spine – Posterocentral disc bulge at L4-L5 level indenting the ventral thecal sac H/O neck pain: Cervical Spondylosis, Disc osteophyte complex noted at C3-C4 level indenting the ventral thecal sac and compressing the bilateral exiting neural foramen. 1. Would this be linked to ligament laxity & Can he start with Ligaplex I & II. If yes, can you please recommend the dosage. 2. Also would Glucosamine Sulphate with Cal Vit D3 help in this regard? Thanks in advance! Thara

Physical Therapist or Physiotherapist 's  Response
Hello,

The MRI reports indicate the disc herniation at the cervical and lumbar spinal region. Medicine can be a symptomatic relief and it's always good to try ones. Also, at his age Physiotherapy will help him to help reduce the symptoms. Usually, in my clinical practice, most cases post surgery with age 60+ have responded well to physiotherapy. I will recommend trying one. As at this age surgery will never be a choice for any surgeon.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Jay Indravadan Patel, Physical Therapist or Physiotherapist
