What Does The Blood Test With Low WBC And RBC Count Indicate?

My husband is an inpatient for about 2 weeks with a bacterial infection and cannot locate the source of the infection, his been on strong antibiotic and is not working. His had MRiI,scat scan,echo cardiogram. His white blood cells are low and so are the red one.

Based on your query, my opinion is as follows.
1. Infection affecting the bone marrow or multiple medications, which could have suppressed the marrow are common causes. Vit B12 and folic acid therapy could help in improvement. A reticulocyte count can confirm if the bone marrow is being suppressed or anemia is due to other causes.
2. Need a bone marrow biopsy to rule out involvement of bone marrow. Alternately a blood culture would also be helpful.
3. Septicemia is one of the common causes of bone marrow suppression. Difficult to advise on identifying the site without knowing clinical details, investigations done and treatment taken.
