What Does Swelling On The Neck During Pregnancy Indicate?

My 32 year old daughter is 9 weeks pregnant. Her supraclavicular lymphnode on the left side of her neck is very swollen. Measuring 2 cm large. Since she is pregnant, they could not give her contrast with the MRI. She had biopsied and came back non specific. They believe there is a tumor. and mentioned lymphoma. What does this mean?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The lymph nodes are found in different areas of the body. They are part of the immune system that helps protect the body from infection and inflammation.

A lymphoma unfortunately refers to a type of cancer that develops in these lymph nodes. Her doctor would be able to determine if this is definitely the case.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Michelle Gibson James
