What Does Swelling Along With A Squishy Feeling In The Knee Indicate?

I had an ACL and meniscus repair with grafting on my left knee a year ago. A day ago I started feeling like there was a squishy not grinding or cracking but a squishy feeling inside my knee and there is lots of swelling? It is to the point where I’m having trouble bending and walking but very little pain. I’m not sure why as there was no trauma or unusual activity that I did that could cause injury to the knee.

Orthopaedic Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

You have got left knee effusion which means a collection of fluid inside the joint. The reason may be synovitis or mild infection. Local ultrasound of the left knee should be done to confirm the diagnosis. Blood counts and Serum CRP level should be done to rule out infection. Knee aspiration and fluid sent for culture and microscopic examination. Visit operating surgeon is recommended for detailed assessment.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
