Hello,

Your husband was having sharp pain on the knee joint and radiating to back. There are many causes of knee pain, but radiating pain occurs in nerve defect. Moreover, pain going to rip and increasing in standing position. So the probable reason could be sciatica or compression of any other nerve supplying to knee and back.

It can be confirmed, and other causes can be excluded by the following investigations:
1. Nerve conduction tests
2. X-ray knee and back
3. Blood glucose levels
4. Serum calcium
Coming to the treatment part, you can follow the below:
1. Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (ibuprofen)
2. Extension and flexion exercises
3. Diclofenac spray can be used
4. Muscle relaxants can be used for one week
5. B complex vitamins
There is no need to worry, but it is always better to take care as soon as to avoid some complications.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Vamsi Krishna Chittimoju
