What Does Severe Pain In The Upper Leg Indicate?

I have never had this pain. It was my right upper leg. They were so sharp I wasbent over. It was like a sharp hot knife was jabbing me. After sitting a couple of minutes it stopped. It happened one more time this morning. When this happened I had been dealing cards for most my shift.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Intermittent severe pain is often due to neuralgia (nerve related pain), though there are other causes as well. It can be temporary or permanent and there are different possible causes.

Some of the most common causes are
(1)diabetes
(2)liver or kidney disease
(3)side effect of medication (4)thyroid disease (5)abnormal levels of vitamin B6 (6)low vitamin b12 or folate (7)neurological diseases such as MS (8)trauma such as arthritis of the spine

In some persons the cause is not found.
If it continues, you should see your doctor for an assessment.
I hope this helps
