I have severe pain behind right knee and calf muscle. I am toe walking and holding on to furniture to keep from severe pain. I fell lately. General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

After having gone through your history, you seem to be suffering from a condition called Baker's cyst.

A Baker's cyst also called a popliteal cyst develops when excess joint fluid is pushed into one of the small sacs of tissue behind the knee. The excess fluid is usually caused by painful conditions of the knee joint such as osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis or an injury that irritate the knee.

I advise you to consult an orthopedic surgeon for proper clinical evaluation and treatment which may include joint aspiration and cortisone injection, or arthroscopic surgery.

Meanwhile:

1. Take over-the-counter anti-inflammatory drugs to reduce pain & swelling such as Ibuprofen or Naproxen.

2. Use a cane, crutch, walker, or another device if you need help to get around. These can help rest your knee.

3. If you wear an elastic bandage around your knee, make sure it is snug but not so tight that your leg is numb, tingles, or swells below the bandage. Loosen the bandage if it is too tight.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali
