What Causes Pain Below Knees?

I have severe pain in the front and back of my leg below the knee. I ve had Doppler that ruled out a clot. I ve had knee surgery but the knee does not hurt. All the pain is in the calf and the shin - it s been 3 months and I cannot walk over 500 ft. without severe pain. I am 75 year old male in good health otherwise.

Hello and welcome to HCM,
Severe pain in knee can be due to a number of causes.
Since, the blood clot is ruled out, other possibilities have to be reviewed.
Pain in knee joint can occur due to osteoarthritis which is an age related degenerative disease of joints, gout, pseudogout etc.
At the age of 75 years, a possibility of osteoarthritis is most probable.
Associated pain in calf is not expected in osteoarthritis.
However, associated muscle pain can occur due to straining of the muscles.
I suggest you to consult your orthopedician for clinical assessment and relevant investigations for management.
