General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi
Thank you for asking HCM.
I have gone through your query. Twisting the knee can get injury to internal structures like anterior crutiate ligament or menisci. Applying ice packs, elevation of leg, immobilizing knee with brace or bandage and over the counter NSAID like ibuprofen (motrin) will be helpful. But if there is no improvement then consult an orthopedic surgeon to rule out any possibility of severe injury. In case of any positive signs a MRI will be needed. If there is any severe injury then it can be corrected by arthroscopy.
Hope this may help you. Let me know if anything not clear.
Thanks.
