What Does Redness At Injection Site Indicate?

Received the shingles vaccination on the 14th of this month. It is now 10 days later and I still have some redness at the injection site. When is this expected to go away? I've been putting cortisone ointement on it which lessened the severity of the redness and helped with the itching. The redness went from 5" x 3-1/2" and is now down to 1" x 1" and I want to make sure I can be around my pregnant daughter and my 2 yr old grandson.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of redness at injection site which is because of tissue laceration and localized tissue damage to the area because of needle entrance. Need not to worry. I would suggest you to visit general physician once and get the area of damage examined. It is not an nerve damage rather localized damage due to excessive force involved. Apply numbing gel on local area as well. It will take 2-3 weeks to heal it properly. Avoid itching and pricking again and again. You should apply Apply thrombophob gel and ice pack on the site of swelling.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
