What Does Recurring Swelling In The Area Of Bone And Tooth Extraction Suggest?

I recently had a tooth removed at the back of my mouth. On the upper left of my jaw. The tooth had a gold filling in it which had worn down over few years. I believe the filling went to close to a nerve in my mouth as it was painfull to chew food on that side. The tooth was removed. And the gum started to hear abnormally as bone was still in my mouth which the tooth was connected to. The bone was removed a week later. But a following week later my gum flares up a swells. I have washed my mouth with salt water numerous times but the swelling goes down then flares up. I am not sure if this is infection or part of a healing process.

Hi..
Can understand your concern.

As per your complain in case if you had an infected tooth which was painful then there are chances that some infection might have left out in the socket leading to flaring of pain..

In case if still you have a swollen gum at the site of extraction there are chances that you have some left out piece of tooth into the socket or any foreign body inclusion accidentally that is causing inflammation and pain as painful swollen gums after a week of treatment is not a part of healing process rather it is due to infection and inflammation.

I would suggest you to consult a dentist and get an x ray done to rule out the exact cause of the pain and swelling and in case it is due to remaining root piece or foreign body removal of the same followed by irrigation of socket with hydrogen peroxide, betadine and saline and intake of antibiotics for 7 days can solve the problem..

Hope this information helps..
