What Does Prolonged Menstrual Bleeding Indicate?

Dear Dr. I am currently on birth control and have been for 7 months. My boyfriend and I are active and birth control is the only contraception we use. One night he finished inside of me and then 3 days in a row we forgot to take the birth control pill. I have now been on my period for 3 weeks! Do all these go together or is it just the period that I should really be worried about. What could possibly be wrong. Thankyou

Hello,

Contraceptive pill should be taken regularly and if missed for three days than unprotected intercourse not advisable and Oral contraceptive (OC) pills intake should be rescheduled.

Now, as you have missed OC pill intakes for three days wait for next period. If your next period is delayed than pregnancy should be ruled out by urine hcg card test or blood hcg test.

From next time take care in not missing pill and also consult a gynecologist for examination.
