What Does Prolonged Absence Of Menstruation Indicate?

I am a 38 year old female. I have not menstruated in over 1 year now. Initially I thought it was due to rapid weight loss (25-28 lbs), I have since gained back approx. 10 lbs and still have not began menstruation again. I am 5 5.5 and was 142 lbs..now I weigh approx 125lbs. I have no children and am getting concerned I have begun menopause. What should I do? FYI: I have no genetic issues/disorders/diseases and no allergies

Pathologist and Microbiologist 's  Response
Hello,

Absence of menstruation at age of 38 years may be due to pre-mature menopause. However, there may be other causes for absence of menstruation. I suggest you to consult your gynecologist for clinical assessment, relevant investigations and thus management.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shailja Puri, Pathologist and Microbiologist
