What Does Pressure In The Groin Area Indicate?

Hello, When I was about 5 or 6 years old my parents found a hard lump between my right leg and scrotum/penis area. They took me in to get it examined. I remember the doctor had given a thorough visual and physical examination as well as a urine test. We got the results and there were no more actions or appointments. Ofcourse, at that time I was too young to know what the diagnosis was, but I m assuming it was nothing serious due to the fact they did nothing about it (surgery, medication). I have been living with it, with no complications, pain, discomfort, etc. I am now 21, and for the past 3-4 weeks now i have felt the odd slight pain in the area as well as a feeling of pressure in the area during any kind of physical activity (running, lifting). I am wondering if maybe it is putting pressure on nerves in the area or something? I am booking an appointment this week with my family doctor to have it re-examined, as I am scared that it may have changed, or gotten more serious over the years. With this information I have given you, do you have any predictions of what it may be, or what may be causing the pain and pressure feeling in the area? I do not want to ask my parents about what it was diagnosed as back when I was 5 or 6 because I do not want to worry them with this information before i get it re-checked because I do not want to add any stress or paranoia unless i found out something actually is wrong. thank you!

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The most common cause of pressure in the groin area can be an inguinal hernia. A physical examination and an ultrasound of the abdomen is needed to confirm the diagnosis.

If the diagnosis is confirmed the treatment would consist of a surgery.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
