What Does Pain In The Muscles And Joints Indicate?

My mother is 73. Has peripheral artery disease, is diabetic (manages with pills) is a smoker, not overweight. For about 16 days she has had severe muscle and joint pain usually with a fever that breaks a couple times a day. After the fever breaks there is a lessening of pain but it usually starts coming back within an hour. Her appetite is fine. The pain is all throughout her body

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi.

I am glad we connected.

Muscle and joint pains in an elderly lady may indicate joint disease like arthritis. This along with the history of diabetes may indicate a joint related disease. This type of arthropathy can be seen because the blood supply to the joints is affected or when the nerve supply is affected.

Getting the blood glucose levels in control would be a good idea. Along with this, using warm water to loosen the joints may help as well.

In case the pain persists, getting a check up by a doctor would be a good idea.

I hope this helps. All the best.
