What Does Pain In The Hips And Knees Indicate?

I have a plate in my right femur running 2/3 of the lenghth of it.i have had it in there since I was 18, I am 56 years old. while I have always had some aching in it during the oncoming weather conditions, rai, and snow fronts. since two weeks ago we started having two noreasters passing through, my leg has been throbbing the length of the femur and the pain is radiating into my knee and up into the back of my hip. usually when I have pain from storms it goes away in a day or two. but it has been hurting so much that it wakes me in the night not letting me sleep and has not subsided going on nearly three weeks now. I am starting to worry about this and am very uncomfortable do you have any thoughts on this?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

How is the pain distributed? Is it starting from the hip and radiating down? Do you have any lubra spine problem? If yes, do a screening x-ray of the lumbar spine. If the pain is around your femur, then there are chances of implant disposition which might compress nerves causing radiating pain. The first thing to do is an x-ray of the femur. Get an expert orthopedic opinion for the x-ray.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shakeel Khan
