What Does Pain In The Groin Area Indicate?

I am a 58 year old female. I exercise 5-6 days per week. Recently, I have been experiencing pain in the groin area, in the fold where the groin meets the leg. It comes and goes, but is very painful, makes it hurt to walk. Shooting pain as well. I experienced this about a year ago, and it seemed to go away on its own. Happens more frequently now.
