What Does Numbness In The Feet Indicate?

My husband is 71 years with a history of a heart attack with stents added twice since 2007. Question. His feet are numb with little feeling. He can walk but is unstable sometime. Right now his left foot is numb and a spot above his ankle maybe nerve ending when you rub spot it burns one spot feels numb like. He has told his primary care physician. Any suggestions?

Is your husband a Diabetic ? In Diabetes, nerve damage can occur leading to numbness, tingling, pain or parasthesia of the feet, legs and sometimes the hands. If not a diabetic, lumbar vertebral disc prolapse with nerve compression can lead to numbness and other symptoms described. He should first get tested for Diabetes, with blood sugar Fasting and postprandial, and Hb A1C. If he does not have diabetes, an MRI of the lumbar spine can diagnose any prolapsed or degenerated intervertibral disc causing nerve compression. It is best he consults a general physician, who can advise the necessary investigations, make the diagnosis and advise on the management.
