Hi I recently got my thyroid ultrasound scan due to pressing pain on my neck, can you please help to explain what the ultrasound report means? and will I get cancer? I m worried to death..thanks a lot.. THYROID ULTRASOUND CLINICAL HISTORY: Bulging right thyroid PREVIOUS: None FINDINGS: Good visibility obtained. Right lobe: 4.8 x 1.4 x 1.3 cm which is a volume of 5 cc. Left lobe: 4.0 x 1.6 x 0.8 cm which is a volume of 3 cc. Isthmus: 2 mm. The thyroid is homogeneous in echotexture with the exception of several ill-definted hypoechoic areas in both lobes. Right lobe: 1. Upper pole ill-defined hypoechoic area with no vascularity or calcification: 1.5 x 0.6 x 0.6 cm. 2. Interpole ill-defined hypoechoic nodular-appearing area with no vascularity or calcification: 0.4 x 0.4 x 0.3 cm. Left lobe: Interpole ill-defined hypoechoic geographic area with no flow or calcification: 0.8 x 0.5 x 0.3 cm. There is no significant lymphadenopathy. INTERPRETATION: Normal size thyroid gland with ill-defined hypoechoic areas. I am not certain whether this corresponds to true nodules or inhomogeneous gland which can be seen in this thyroiditis. Clinical correlation is suggested and earlier follow-up with a reassessment in 4-6 months.

What Does My Ultrasound Scan Report Indicate?
