General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

I understand that you are suffering from alcoholic gastritis with secondary liver damage extent up to the stage of fibrosis. Chronic alcoholism may erodes the normal gastric mucosa that protects the epithelial lining of the stomach. Exposure of the normal epithelium to the acid results in inflammation of the layers of the stomach. Alcoholism also cause lax lower esophageal sphincter which cause regurgitation of the contents of the stomach into the esophagus.

Gastritis may turn into gastric ulcer which in turn disturbs the normal digestion and absorption of the nutrients. Chronic gastritis leads to nausea and vomiting. Liver is the second biggest organ in the body that plays major role in the nutrient metabolism. Alcoholism disrupts the normal pathology of the liver that disturbs the nutrient metabolism and thus the energy needs of the body. High enzyme levels are indicative of liver damage. Needs complete abstinence from alcohol and fat free diet to overcome the liver damage. Appropriate diet is necessary to recover from the liver damage.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Pradeepraj, General & Family Physician
