What Does My X-ray Report Indicate?

My nephew was advised to have a chest xray. The results shows as faint opacity in both lower lungs. He was advised medications for 2 weeks and was advised to take another x-ray after 2 weeks. Do I have to worry for this? Or the second x ray is for just a second opinion?

Hello,

First of all we need to know what kind of treatment your nephew would take during these 2 weeks (antibiotics in a hope that this “faint opacity in both lower lungs” would be some kind of bacterial pneumonia. What complains did he have? Temperature? Cough?

But, bilateralism is not a characteristic feature of bacterial pneumonia. Being faint opacities is a good thing it may be even artefacts which means a fake image. If the opacities persist than a CT scan is mandatory together with other analysis that your doctor would consider helpful.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Klodian
