What Does Metallic Taste In The Mouth Indicate?

My husband is 60. He recently started complaining of a metallic type taste in the back of his mouth. He is also fatigued. He has been under a doctor s care for Rheumatoid Arthritis for about 15 years. He fell down from dizziness last week. He has daily bouts where he senses a metallic taste in the mouth then he gets a chill on the right side of his body. Mostly the chill starts in his leg and moves up to the chest cavity. Then it continues into his face. Again only on the right side.

Hello,

Your husband has a metallic taste in the mouth which is known as dysgeusia, and in this case, it seems to be due to a side effect of some medication and some times due to compression of salivary glands as it gives thick saliva in the mouth.

I would suggest you consult your doctor to substitute for her medicine. Do gargle with hydrogen peroxide. Take lycopene supplement and chew sugar-free gum. You should drink fresh fruit juice. Visit oral physician once and get it examined and start treatment accordingly. Get a complete blood count (CBC) profile done.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Harry Maheshwari
