Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
For the last 5+ years, my annual blood work has shown my ALT blood levels at about 10 (low). The lower end of the range shown on the test results is 20. My doctor has not said anything to me that we need to do more testing, etc. What does this low ALT trend tell you? Thanks
Welcome to HCM! I appreciate your concern. While most low ALT level results indicate a normal healthy liver.
A low-functioning or non-functioning liver, lacking normal levels of ALT activity to begin with, would not release a lot of ALT into the blood when damaged. Other causes for the low ALT include Urinary tract infections or malnutrition.
