What Does Faint Line On A Rapid HIV Test Indicate?

Hello doctors 3 days ago i received oral sex from a sex worker twice. I didn t cum in her mouth. She told me to tell once i cum so she stops Today i went for antibody test using a kit and the results came after 40 mins with a fainting line to be positive and the doctor told me that its most likely detected hiv antibody I was sick already 4 days ago even before receiving the oral sex. I had fever, sore throat probably caught cold and today when i made the test i was still sick. Could that be a reason for the fainting line? Am i at high risk? If i should re-test. When should it be?

Hello,

For you who present after known high-risk exposure to HIV should be tested for HIV infection and assessed for post-exposure antiviral therapy (ART).

The risk of becoming infected with HIV after exposure to body fluids from an HIV- infected patients is low.

The high-risk factor when your exposure to a higher quantity of virus such as sexual transmission, deep injury, a device visibly contaminated with the patient's blood, needle placement in a vein or artery.

The management of health care personnel immediately after significant exposure to blood or body fluid from HIV-infected patients is critically important in reducing the likelihood of transmission.

You should test as soon as possible. Because to prevention HIV after exposure, the goal is to start medicine within one to two hours (or earlier).

Rapid HIV tests always produce a small number of false positive results. All HIV tests need to have the reactive(positive) result confirmed with confirmation tests.

Your doctor should communicate with you better about the result and you should know that the supplementary tests are needed.

Your common cold symptom is before the exposure so it may not related to HIV symptom.

The time course, in patients who have an acute symptomatic infection, the usual time from HIV exposure to the development of symptoms is two to four weeks.

You should see your doctor for another confirm test and re-evaluate your symptom right now.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
